"Our music in the early '80s, it might have been ecstatic, but it wasn't really sexy, was it? Now we're sexy and ecstatic."

Comments: It's not often -- or maybe ever? -- that you hear extended booing during a U2 show, but that's exactly what happened tonight while the band was out on the e-stage. The people who came to the rescue after Bono's bike crash in Central Park last November are at the show: two firefighters from Engine 44 and the female fan who called 911. All three are standing on the GA floor right near the e-stage, and Bono strikes up a conversation with them. The firefighters share quick answers/stories and even share a glass of Jameson Irish Whiskey with Bono. But Bono mistakenly introduces the female as a fan from Denver, and when she gets to hold the microphone, she scolds Bono and points out that she's a Washington, DC, resident. She goes on to talk at length about her role in the bike accident and puts down New Yorkers in the process -- pointing out that she had to call 911 because no one from the city would do it. The whole scene goes on too long and draws loud boos from the New Yorkers in the audience.

The vibe gets much better a couple songs later as Bono sings the praises of New York's own Lou Reed and a recent meeting with his widow, Laurie Anderson. He and Edge proceed to sing "Satellite Of Love," which hasn't been played in full since December 10, 1993. The song is performed just like the Zoo TV version, with Reed's image appearing on the video screen and singing in a sort of faux-duet with Bono.

Another surprise later in the show as Paul Simon comes on stage to sing "Mother And Child Reunion." He sings extra lyrics that Bono doesn't normally do when snippeting the song before "Streets," and the duet goes on longer than is typical, so we're listing this as a separate song performance.

A host of celebrities are at the show, including Chelsea Clinton, Simon LeBon (prompting the "Girls On Film" snippet, no doubt), Mike Peters, Julian Lennon and actress Jessica Chastain, who gets a shout-out during "Beautiful Day."
