Joshua Tree Tour 2017

"I love hymns and gospel music, but the idea of turning your music into a tool for evangelism is missing the point. Music is the language of the spirit anyway."

-- Bono

Comments: Two fans, presumably part of the VIP backstage experience, manage to get engaged on the stage about an hour before the show. Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo, is on stage with them, videotaping the proposal. Bono continues to fight what Chicago papers say is "nagging bronchitis." He stops to greet fans outside the arena today, but continues to struggle somewhat vocally during the show -- speaking, rather than singing, some lyrics. He brings a girl from Costa Rica on stage to do the Meerkat video segment during "Angel Of Harlem," and Bono changes the "Young Americans" snippet lyric to say, "she's a Central American." "Volcano" is played for fourth time this tour. At the end of "Beautiful Day," Bono sings what is easily the longest "Moment Of Surrender" snippet of the tour so far -- and then sings a bit more during "Bad." Bono dedicates "One" to Paul McGuinness, who's at his second consecutive show -- and then the crowd proceeds to sing much of the song for Bono. U2 rehearses "Crystal Ballroom" twice during the afternoon soundcheck, but it (obviously) doesn't make tonight's set list.
