"Gloria" made it into the show tonight, taking over the second spot in the set. It's the first song from October to be played this tour and the first time "Gloria" was played in full since St. Louis, December 14, 2005. Bono does the traditional band introductions in the middle, and ends the song by saying, "Something special for Chicago." Bono brings a fan named Julia on stage during "Mysterious Ways," and she stays to do the Meerkat video during the next song, "Desire." But she wasn't alone: Bono also brings up a blind guitarist named Sean, who's left-handed, so he has to turn Edge's acoustic guitar upside down to play. A fan named Kevin also comes on stage to sing part of the song and, when Bono asks his name afterward, Kevin says loudly, "Don't stop making music!" -- much to the delight of the crowd. "Every Breaking Wave" is dedicated to Ali Hewson, whom Bono says it at the show. He also tells the crowd that his, Larry's and Edge's sons are all at the show.
Friday's U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing gays to marry comes up throughout the show. Bono wears a rainbow flag given to him by a fan during "Pride" and shouts, "Gay pride in the name of love!" And during "Beautiful Day," he sings, "See the world in green and blue / A rainbow of colors right in front of you." He also uses "Pride" to encourage the audience to "send the spirit of Dr. King to Charleston. Send your love! Send your prayers!"
The marriage theme continues with "All I Want Is You," which Bono introduces by saying, "Here's another one we don't play very much. You can tell the missus is in the house!" During the song, he tells the audience that he's thinking about Johnny and June Carter Cash, and that their son, John, is at the show.
"One" is dedicated to the people who marched in Chicago's Pride parade earlier in the day.
Other notes: After being soundchecked, "Lucifer's Hands" makes it into the show -- only its second performance ever. "Two Hearts Beat As One" didn't get played in full, but Bono did sing a snippet of it during the outro of "Beautiful Day."
