U2 Concerts featuring performances from Pop

U2 has performed 194 concerts featuring songs from Pop.

Pop was the ninth studio album released as U2. The album was released on March 3, 1997.  Recording sessions began in 1995 with a variety of producers while Larry Mullen was recovering from a back injury. As a result many of the songs were initially built around a drum track, but later developed with Mullen for the final recording. The album was recorded between 1995 and right up to the end of 1996 as the band struggled to complete the album before a tour which had already been booked. Initially planned for release in the fall of 1996, the album was pushed back to early 1997. Right up to the evening the tapes were taken to New York for mastering, the band was working on the album.

The album was recorded at Hannover Quay (HQ), Windmill Lane Studios, The Works, as well as South Beach Studios in Miami. Producers on the album are credited as Howie B., Flood, and Steve Osbourne, but U2 also worked with Nellee Hooper on some of the early development of the album.

The Pop album saw U2 struggle with leaks of material on the internet for the first time. Clips from an Electronic Press Kit of the new songs "Discotheque" and "Wake Up Dead Man" found their way onto the internet in late 1996. A full length leak of the song "Discotheque" caused the release date of the single to be moved forward.

In total six singles were released from Pop. "Discotheque", "Staring at the Sun", "Last Night on Earth", and "Please" were all released on their own. "If God Will Send His Angels" and "Mofo" were also both issued as singles, but as two parts of one single release. Also released during 1997 was an EP titled PopHeart that featured live recordings from the PopMart tour. Unhappy with the album versions of songs, both "Last Night on Earth" and "Please" were re-recorded for the single release.

Pop debuted at number 1 in 32 countries including the US and UK.
