U2 Concerts in Wembley Stadium (I)

U2 has performed 9 times in Wembley Stadium (I). Those performances included   unique songs and an overall total of 221 songs.

Wembley Stadium (I) is located in London,  England

Wembley Stadium opened on April 28th, 1923 and was the prime major event venue in Great Britain. It was built by Sir John Simpson and Maxwell Ayrton for the British Empire Exhibition of 1924 and was meant to be demolished after the exhibition, but it was saved by Sir James Stevenson and went on to host many more historical events before finally being demolished in the early 2000's to make way for a new Wembley Stadium.

Wembley Stadium was the primary home stadium of England national football team from 1951 until it's closure. In addition to rival matches against Scotland, Wembley hosted several notable England matches including their only World Cup Final victory in 1966.

As a music venue, Wembley hosted the many of the biggest acts in the world in their prime including Queen, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd, the Spice Girls, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and David Bowie. Oasis were the last British band to headline Wembley Stadium with two shows in the summer of 2000.

Of course, the biggest musical event in the history of Wembley Stadium was Live Aid on July 13th, 1985. A benefit concert to help relief famine in Ethiopia, Live Aid featured the top acts in music including Paul McCartney, the Who, David Bowie, Sting, Phil Collins, etc.

One of U2's breaktrhough performances was at Live Aid. They later headlined Wembley on the Joshua Tree, ZooTV / Zoorpopa, and PopMart tours.
